Happy Thanksgiving

Hi Everyone-

I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and happy "lite" eating! :) I am compiling the results on where everyone is at so people can give their BEST the last leg of the race-so you should have that tomorrow. If anyone has not been receiving the monthly awards please let me know--I think a few people have had it go into their spam box!

Well keep up the hardwork and don't forget to choose the Sweet Potatoes over the mashed! :)

Oh and lastly...let me know how I can support and continue to motivate each of you individually--there wouldn't be anything that would make me happier than to see everyone achieve their personal goals.

Thanks!

Word's of Encouragement from our CFO

Chelsey,

I wish my last month had been as good as my first! I find that if I cheat on my diet or exercise I tend to think, “Ok – I might as well cheat the rest of the day and start again tomorrow.” The biggest battle is in our own minds. Making a firm decision to just do it is the key.

I started my weight loss before HRI started “the biggest loser” contest so I lost about 25 pounds the 2 months before my official weigh the first of July. I have worked at a desk for long days for 30 years and formed the bad habits of drinking lots of pop and eating fast food in my car during a hurried lunch. To motivate myself to take better charge of this aspect of my life I used some long range, mid-range, and short-range motivations.

For long range goal visualization I put a picture of my three beautiful grandkids on the wall of my office. If I drink a pop they see me! My vision is to be able to dance at their weddings in a couple of decades. (And to have them not be embarrassed by a really fat grandpa)

For my mid-range motivation I recruited my kids to form a team to do the 206 mile Logan to Jackson Wyoming bike race as a relay team. We made that ride in grand style in September. My relay leg was only 35 flat miles but with that goal in mind I rode my bike at 10-15 miles 4-5 times a week. Having our team do occasional rides together and more importantly knowing they were planning on me and rooting for me - helped keep me motivated. We made family T-Shirts and had fun working toward that goal and accomplishing it. With my skinny kids doing the mountain passes we placed 21rst out of 94 teams. I didn’t tell the real men at Chem-Dry who each rode the entire race themselves that I also had a goal that our team would do the race faster than Craig, Darren, or Dale could make the whole ride themselves. My kids did the hard riding and I got my kicks out of “beating” these consistent marathoners and tri-atheletes. (My kids are all skinny, much younger, and in good shape)

Another helpful thing was the friendly competition and regular weigh-ins for the biggest loser. I weigh in every day and chart my bike rides. I mentally reward myself with a pat on the back every time I log my daily ride and weight. With the bike relay completed I recruited several HRI managers to ride daily during lunch hours. Having others involved helps me keep going.

An older brother, older sister and I all have used the medifast diet. I eat 5 shakes, bars, or other meals a day and then one “green meal” with a little meat and a vegetable. The nutrients needed are in the diet and I don’t have to read labels, count calories, or other things like that I don’t have the patience for. I highly recommend that plan. The three of us have similar builds and metabolism and similar years of steady weight gain. Since March by older brother has lost over 100 pounds, my sister 50 pounds and me 60. I am still a long way from my personal goal to lose 100 pounds but am thrilled to be more than half way there!

Just a reminder that tomorrow is the weigh-in for October! Please get me your weigh-in ASAP. Even if you haven't reported your weights from last month you are still eligible for this month and the Grand Prizes.

I will try to Post August and September's Monthly Winners-I think the group email has been going to spam for some people-I am so sorry! I will also try to post everyone's % lost this week!

Thanks,

Chelsey

Summer Slim-Down

Well Summer is almost over-many of you have the kiddos back in school, vacations over, and life is slowing down just a tad. This is a great time to reflect on how your "Summer Slim-Down" program went. What changes are you going to make this last leg if the race? What things will you keep? As we head into the fall some people find it easier to exercise and workout and others due to wearing baggy hoodies and sweaters add pounds that can be easily hidden-find it more difficult. My advice is for everyone to start making a plan now...holidays are around the corner and the more RESULTS you can get prior to the Holiday eating fest-the more discipline you will have.

As a reminder September's weigh-in will be next WEDNESDAY Spet. 3rd due to the Labor Day holiday! :)

Have a safe Labor Day-Make healthy choices and we will circle back next week.

P.S. Has everyone received their Gift Cards from August's Monthly Winners? If not, let me know and I will send ASAP.

Weigh-in Rules

I have had many people note that it isn't fair to wait a few days(weeks) to post results due to others not turning in their weights in time. Last month I tried to get the numbers so I could get the pounds that everyone lost combined. As a reminder, if you do not submit your weigh-in's with 48 hrs of the deadline you will NOT be qualified for the monthly prizes. You will however still be eligible for the Grand Prize. I have set it up this way because all of us may miss a month of weighing in because we are embarrassed, on vacation, etc.

August 4th is our next weigh-in. Please get me your results on time so I can post results withiin a few days of receiving the numbers. Thank you to all who have been VERY good at getting me the numbers on time. Let's have fun and and not let these details ruin it for everyone else! And keep posting because we all LOVE the feedback.

Thanks-Chels

Happy 4th of July

I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy and safe 4th of July. Keep up the great work and when we all get back let's re-energize everyone and try to get more people blogging. If you have success stories either e-mail them to me so I can post them or if you have health questions please do the same.

Health Tip:

If you find that your workout isn't showing results it is probably time to mix it up. Remember that it is important to mix cardio with weight lifting and other forms of exercise so you get a full-body work-out.

PMA-Positive Mental Attitude is important at this point in the contest-it can be easy to get discouraged. Don't give up!

Have the itch to snack?

Snacking isn't neccessarily a bad thing, but it can be if you let it get out of control. If you are like me I always crave something sweet before I go to bed and find comfort indulging in a bowl of ice cream with a warm and gooey brownie. But as many say-character is usually defined during the hard moments in life not the easy ones. Avoiding sweets and fatty snacks is usually a hard thing for most normal people. I find if I am keeping busy then I tend to snack less and not be obsessed with these over the top calories. The time you are eating can also affect your weight-it can affect your metabolism and the way your body digests foods.

As for Kathryn and Vanessa-pretzels are their new alternative!

First to 30 lbs

Just as a reminder. The first contestant to lose 30 lbs will receive a Nano ipod to help with music while working-out. This can be accomplished anytime throughout the contest and the first one to achieve it will need to contact me ASAP! Best of luck. All other monthly prizes will be granted based on our monthly weigh-ins.

Weekend-Blues?

Elizabeth Jamison would like to know what people are doing to maintain their health programs over the weekends? Many times it is true that we get in a routine and do really well in the week and then by the weekend we have errands, going to dinner with friends, kids events, etc. that throw us off track. We lose sight of our goals. If anyone has any feedback on how to be strict on the weekends please comment in the comment section below.

Sometimes if you get your workout in early in the morning then you still have a full day to complete other things. Going out to eat on the weekends is another killer-counting calories and portion control can be an obstacle. I think it is important for everyone to start to develop a sense of when you are really hungry. As a society we tend to emotionally eat, eat because it is lunch time, we're bored, etc. These can be unneccessary calories and make a huge difference in the long run. Part of being healthy is learning about your body type and paying attention to foods and habits that make you feel good or bad.

EX: I don't eat a lot of meat. Whenever I feel tired or not as sharp with day to day tasks, it is usually because I am lacking iron and protein.

Fun ideas

Some franchisees are choosing to have additional prizes or rules within their franchise. John Brewer's team has a rule that everytime you are over last week/month's weigh-in you owe the pot $1 per pound. When your wallet is tied to something it makes you even more accountable. If anyone has any other fun ideas feel free to share so other franchisees can do similar things!

Community Centers

Jeff McDonald just informed me that a lot of cities have a rec center or community center with a workouot area. They are quit a bit less than a gym membership he is paying about $125/year.

***If you have discussion points you can email them to me or you can post under the comments section. Click on comments to see what other people write. As a reminder you will need to set up a gmail account to post comments on this site. I can walk you through it if you need help!

Competition Kickoff

Say good-bye to ice cream, soda pop, greasy burgers, and beer! Today the official Biggest Loser Contest begins. Everyone will need to e-mail or call me with your starting weigh-ins before 5 PM PST. (only exception being Brendan Wilson and Alice Payne in Australia...since their in a completely different time zone)

If you haven't had a chance to map out a game plan, I would recommend doing so this week. Where the competition will go for 9 months it will take endurance and a health plan that won't burn you out right away.

Track your calories on www.dailyplate.com or any other way you feel fit.
It is important to drink water and to eat enough calories so when you exercise you burn fat.

The sky is the limit-this contest is being put on in hopes that each of us will live healthier and lose some weight in the process.

Best of luck and may the best man/woman win!!!

T-Shirts and Water Bottles

Alright! The T-shirts and water bottles are on their way, you should receive them the 1st part of next week. Monday will be our FIRST WEIGH-IN. I will need the weights by 5PM PST the first Monday of every month. It is important to weigh yourself around the same time and make sure that you are using the same scale everytime.

Secondly, EVERYONE will need to take a picture of themselves wearing the BLC T-shirts once they have been received. You can e-mail them to healthier@chemdry.com or mail them to HRI.

If you are not familiar with blogging-you can put comments by clicking on the comments section below every article. This is where you can ask questions to other participants, cheer people on, or just browse to see what other people are doing to change. ***You will need a gmail (google e-mail) account to post, for security reasons. You can set up an e-mail address through gmail at www.gmail.com

Countdown to Weight Loss

Congratulations on making the decision to join HRI's first Biggest Loser Competition! This blog has been created to help keep all N-Hance and Chem-Dry participants informed about what is going on. You can use this site to cheer others on, ask appropriate questions, and to post your results if you choose. Because not all of our participants have access to C.L.A.S.S online, we felt this would be the best way to keep everyone informed. I will announce monthly winners and prizes on this site as well as in newsletters and on C.L.A.S.S. so your peers outside of this contest can congratulate you.

The official start date is about 1 month away but there is plenty that we can be doing now to prepare:

1. I will be emailing everyone a Goal Planning Sheet so you can track your eating and exercise habits-pre-contest, and then set goals to achieve during the competition.
2. T-shirts and water bottles will not be mailed out until the end of April.
3. All credit cards will not be processed until then.
4. Everyone will be required to email me a starting photo with weigh-in. The picture must be taken wearing your Biggest Loser T-shirt so we know it isn't an out-dated one.
5. Some people are choosing to purchase a health-o-meter scale so they can track body fat %. You are not required too, but we ask that you use the same scale for each weigh-in for consistency.
